Ronin is a restored and modified 1989 Porsche 964 C4. It is the embodiment of lofty ambitions to pair a classic daily driver with an off-road edge, and it does not disappoint. Mechanically, Ronin retained its all wheel drive character, but upgraded to the 993 system which allowed for a sixth gear and viscous coupling. This change lightend the car by 110 lbs and offers a more simplified system than the original mechanical drivetrain.
The custom fabricated approach angle has been dramaitcally improved, and a CSF oil cooler with dual fans has been added to improve engine cooling. The original and stock engine block was enlarged from 3.6 liters of displacement to 3.8 liters. Further enhancements include custom Kinsler individual throttle bodies, the top-of-the-line Haltech engine management, Mahle pistons, Carrillo rods, custom crank shaft and a GT3 RS muffler. Ronin now delivers 310 horsepower and 245 ft-lbs of torque.
Beyond the inner workings of this incredible Safari build, the entire body has been stitch welded for extra rigidity, and the original Guards red color has been transformed to Slate Gray, affectionately known as "Steve McQueen Gray", with a distinctive Martini-style pinstripe down the hood.
As its chosen name implies, Ronin channels the same spirit as the 953 Dakar in the owner's Porsche inspiration. Ronin is a wandering warrior capable of carving through dirt as well as asphalt - raw, rare, and relentlessly fun.
