Kelly-Moss Secures Multiple Championships for 2019 Season

( Madison, Wisc. October 11 2019 ) Road Atlanta closed out another successful IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama season for Kelly-Moss Road and Race.

What all went down at Road Atlanta this weekend? Roman De Angelis secures the Platinum Championship, Alan Metni secures the Platinum Masters Championship (back-to-back), Dave Brule secures two Hard Charger awards for the season, and Kelly-Moss secures the GT3 Cup USA Platinum Team Championship!

Driving the No. 79 Racing for Children’s Porsche, sponsored by Medical Properties Trust to benefit Children’s of Alabama, De Angelis took the lead in Turn 1 on the opening lap and would spend the next 45 minutes keeping the rest of the pack in his mirrors. It was De Angelis’ 15th podium result in the 16-race season and is the second championship in a matter of weeks for De Angelis, who last month won the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama Championship.

“With the role that I’ve had with Kelly-Moss, coming into the second season with them and my third season in Porsche Cup, it was pretty evident that we were looking to win a championship that we weren’t able to get last year,” De Angelis said. “I can’t thank the Racing for Children’s, Medical Properties Trust, Kelly-Moss, Children’s Hospital of Alabama team enough to put their trust in me again to run the car in 2019

In the Platinum Masters class, Alan Metni secured his second consecutive championship with his eighth victory of the season. Whereas it took until the season-ending weekend at Michelin Raceway for Metni to get the Platinum Masters lead in 2018, this year, he took it with a victory in April’s season-opening race at Barber Motorsports Park and never relinquished it for the remainder of the year.

“I enjoyed getting to celebrate it with my family,” Metni said. “My wife and daughter came and watched me race and I was happy to see them. They surprised me. I didn’t know they were coming until I saw my daughter this morning. Look, the team did great. I like to say we’re one of the hardest-working teams in motorsports. I always think the race is won in the training and we trained our (tails) off.”

Another Masters class and KMR driver, David Brule, was the winner of the Yokohama Hard Charger Award this final race weekend, making it the second Hard Charger Award of the season for Brule!

Best of all, Kelly-Moss chief Walker Simmons and all our friends from Children’s of Alabama, Racing for Children’s and Medical Properties Trust were there to share this awesome moment. We are KMR strong, a racing family with a Championship winning heritage and are so proud of every single person involved both here at the track and back at home.

The NBCSN broadcast of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will air on Friday, October 18 at 2 p.m. ET.
