Kelly-Moss Road and Race Back at Circuit of the Americas for Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Season-Finale

Austin, Texas (21 September 2016) – As Kelly-Moss Road and Race returns to Circuit of the Americas for the second week in a row, the smell of champagne from when Jesse Lazare clinched the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup championship last week probably still lingers in the air.dsc_0268

The team didn’t have too long to celebrate another IMSA championship, as the focus now turns right to this weekend’s Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA doubleheader season-finale event.

Back with Kelly-Moss Road and Race at COTA is the father-son duo of Bryce and Russell Ward who compete in the top Diamond category, and Dan Weyland who campaigns the Silver Masters class in his No. 17 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

weyland-podiumWeyland scored a podium in his most recent outing, driving among a very strong field at Road America in PCA competition earlier this month.

The Ward family calls Texas home and looks forward to their home race this weekend.

Russell Ward made his first-ever car start at COTA earlier this year at the season-opener in March and has shown remarkable progress throughout the season as he has gone head to head with some racing veterans. Russell has taken part in four rounds of the championship so far this year – highlighted by a runner-up finish in Race 9 at Sonoma. A return trip to the podium at his home track would be the perfect way to cap off his year.

Bryce Ward has picked up a pair of top-five finishes through the 2016 season and the on-track action has seen him dicing it up with his son in their dsc_0079twin Kelly-Moss Road and Race-prepared Porsche GT3 machines.

Having also competed for Kelly-Moss Road and Race in PCA this year, Dan Weyland is set for the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA finale at COTA in the Silver Masters class. He most recently raced with the series in August at Utah Motorsports Campus where he picked up two top-five finishes including a fourth place result in Race 12.

The weekend is expected to feature the hot and steamy weather conditions typical of late summer in Texas. And with rain in the forecast, it could make the 3.4-mile iconic road course all the more dsc_0016challenging.

“We are all still smiling about Jesse’s (Lazare) championship, and it will be fun to be right back at COTA for the Pirelli Cup races this weekend with Dan (Weyland), Russell (Ward) and Bryce (Ward),” said Kelly-Moss Road and Race Team Principal Jeff Stone. “It was crazy warm last weekend and now I think we are going to see rain so it could be a challenge, but our guys are up for it. This series has grown a lot and everyone is looking forward to closing out the year on a high note.”

The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA event begins with three practice sessions on FridaySaturday and Sunday will each feature one practice, followed by qualifying and a 45-minute race.
