Lexington, Ohio (19 May 2016) – Not only were Rene and Nicole Robichaud back in PCA race action for Kelly-Moss Road and Race this past weekend, the father-daughter duo who hail from the Cincinnati, Ohio area were back at their home track of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on which both have put in miles.
While Rene Robichaud has a vast history of race experience, the 2016 race season is the first year of competitive racing for Nicole and also the first opportunity for the father and daughter to compete against one another. And they’re easy to identify on track. In fact, their two Kelly-Moss Road and Race prepared GT4 ClubSport Porsches are identical machines with opposing paint schemes.
The Mid-Ohio PCA event took place over the weekend and Nicole, whose first-ever experience in a racecar came at the 2.258-mile Central Ohio road course, drove to three top-10 finishes as she continues to show speed and consistency in her first year of competition.
The weekend featured two sprint races as well as an enduro in some mixed weather conditions, with Nicole placing sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Rene put on a strong showing in both sprint races as he ran second within tenths of the leader and took two runner-up finishes. He also claimed the pole position for the second sprint race. Despite another good run in the endurance event, a podium result did not come to fruition for Rene Robichaud after contact with slower traffic forced the entry to retire early.
“Racing at Mid-Ohio was a real treat,” said Rene Robichaud. “It is our home track and I was positively surprised at how competitive the car is there against the higher horsepower cars. It helped that the track was wet because our Traction Control and ABS came in very handy. Unfortunately, in the enduro I took myself out of second place following the leader as we lapped the field through a hole that disappeared when I got there. Slight contact was enough to take me out of contention but it was still a great weekend!”
Though racing together on various tracks throughout the country makes for memorable moments for both father and daughter, there is perhaps no other track more special than the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Ohio family racers.
The Robichaud family will be back racing again at Watkins Glen International on June 3-5. Kelly-Moss Road and Race is also set for a return to Pirelli Cup GT3 USA Trophy competition at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca June 3-5.
