Madison, Wisc. (31 May 2016) – Kelly-Moss Road and Race is once again bound for the West Coast as the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA returns for another double-header event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend. Kelly-Moss Road and Race will enter four cars in the all-Porsche series with both Patrick Laughlin (No. 23) and Dan Weyland (No. 17) back at Mazda Raceway just three weeks after the series previously competed at the track for Races 5 & 6 of the 2016 Championship.
The father-son duo of Bryce (No. 57) and Russell Ward (No. 33) return to Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA action for Races 7 & 8 after previously having participated in Races 1 & 2 at the season-opener of Circuit of the Americas not far from their hometown of Seabrook, Texas. The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca event will mark each of their first starts at the iconic 2.238-mile road course nestled in scenic Northern California.
Kelly-Moss Road and Race will field three cars in the Diamond category with the Wards and Patrick Laughlin each contending the Porsche GT3 Cup division that utilizes the 991-series Porsche 911 from 2014-present. Dan Weyland will campaign the Silver Masters class in his 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Following contact during Race 6 three weeks ago in which Laughlin’s No. 23 Porsche sustained significant damage, the Kelly-Moss Road and Race team has hustled to get the car back in prime form in time for this weekend’s race action with help from others in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA paddock.
“Pat’s car had a heavy impact at the last race, and it was only possible to get the car ready in time for this event thanks to the dedicated Kelly-Moss body and race staff, as well as the generosity of our fellow competitors Competition Motorsports and TruSpeed Autosport who helped us get the car back to our shop in Madison, Wisconsin for repairs,” said Assistant Competition Director Alex Stone.
The weekend marks another dual-campaign effort for Kelly-Moss Road and Race, which will also be in PCA action at Watkins Glen International with Frank Selldorf and the father-daughter duo of Rene and Nicole Robichaud. In addition to it being a double race weekend for the team, Kelly-Moss Road and Race Team Principal Jeff Stone’s son is getting married which further adds to the weekend festivities.
